Tout le monde (grand public)

Winter in Canada is beautiful, yet winter is tough on floors. Slush, calcium chloride, sand and dry heated air can damage your flooring over time. With the right routine, you can protect your floors looking great through the winter.

Quality laminate is also a strong option. Its protective top layer is highly resistant to scratches, in many cases even more than vinyl. Look for a laminate with a high abrasion rating as well as good moisture protection for families with pets.

Luxury vinyl plank is usually the go-to floor below grade. Most LVP collections are completely waterproof, meaning they will not be damaged when moisture appears. SPC and WPC vinyl also hide slight unevenness in the concrete.

De-icing salt often leaves a hazy residue which may dull the protective layer of hardwood, laminate and vinyl. Wipe up residue quickly using a damp microfibre mop together with a pH-neutral cleaner. Stay away from soaking the floor on wood-based floors.

What about hardwood? Yes, though choose wisely. Harder woods such as hickory, maple and oak hold up better, and wire-brushed textures or distressed or hand-scraped textures hide minor marks far better than a shiny finish.

If you share your home with little ones and four-legged friends, you already know how quickly floors take a beating. Claws, Www.speedway-World.pl toy cars and blocks, juice spills and snow and slush quickly stain a delicate surface in no time. Luckily: modern flooring products are built to stand up to everyday chaos.

Whatever material you choose, don't overlook the details: sealing around fixtures, good thresholds and a well-prepared subfloor. Those small details make a huge difference in how long your floor will last.

First of all, evaluate the humidity in the slab. A quick test for example taping a square of plastic onto the slab for a day or two can show whether moisture comes through. Address water problems prior to installing anything.

The number one selling point of vinyl plank is its resistance to moisture. In contrast to solid hardwood, a well-made LVP won't warp because of water. This makes it an excellent choice for kitchens, bathrooms and basements.

The first line of defence is the entrance. Put a sturdy outdoor mat and a soft absorbent mat inside the main entrances. Using both stops much of the salt and grit before it can scratch the rest of the house. Set up a boot rack so snowy boots never sit on the floor.

When planning a flooring project, they tend to focus on colour, the style and price. However what lies beneath the floor is just as important. The right underlayment improves how the floor feels, sound and moisture protection, and can help your flooring perform better.

Warmth and comfort is also important, particularly when temperatures drop. Luxury vinyl feels softer and quieter underfoot compared to porcelain or stone, and many products offer an attached underlayment for better sound absorption.

Moisture levels is very important. When the furnace is running, the air in your home can become extremely dry, which causes hardwood to contract and gaps to appear. A whole-house humidifier that keeps humidity in a moderate range protects your floors and your comfort.

Can you use hardwood in these rooms? Water-resistant laminate can work well for kitchens, if moisture is dealt with promptly. Engineered hardwood can also be used in a kitchen with care, but in bathrooms, vinyl or tile stay the safer choices.

LVP is usually the first recommendation for pet owners. It is water-resistant, meaning water bowls become easy to clean up. A thick wear layer helps resist scratches from claws, while its softer feel feels quieter for kids playing on the floor.

The right underlay also smooths out slight unevenness in the subfloor while adds some softness underfoot. Note, though, it cannot replace levelling the subfloor: major unevenness should be levelled first.

A final tip: many vinyl and laminate products include a pre-attached pad. In that case, adding another underlay may create problems and void the warranty. Make sure to check the manufacturer's guidelines.

Toughness is one more major advantage. The best vinyl planks come with a protective wear layer that protects against everyday wear, stains and UV fading. Families with kids and pets appreciate the low maintenance: regular sweeping and a light mop keep it looking new.

Renovating a basement is one of the best ways to add living space and resale value to your home. However lower levels bring special challenges: concrete slabs, humidity plus lower temperatures. A poor flooring choice can lead to mold, swelling and costly repairs.

Kitchens and bathrooms rank among the most demanding spaces in a household. They see splashes, steam, dropped dishes and constant cleaning. Your flooring choice here has to stay water-resistant, hard-wearing and easy to clean and still deliver style.
