Tout le monde (grand public)

When you are deciding on a classic wood look, two products almost always lead the conversation: laminate and natural hardwood. Both can be attractive, yet they have important differences when it comes to cost, durability and lifespan.

In the end, which one is right for you? If long-term value and the ability to refinish are what you want, choose hardwood. If cost, durability and simple care top your list, laminate makes a lot of sense.

Engineered wood is another option when you prefer a genuine wood surface. Thanks to its stable core, engineered wood resists moisture swings better than solid hardwood, and solid wood is not recommended below grade. Install it with a proper vapour barrier for long-term performance.

Hardwood remains the traditional favourite. It adds natural character that many buyers love, and it is often refinished many times over its life. Being able to refinish it means a well-kept hardwood floor to last for generations. It usually adds buyer appeal in most cities.

Long-term durability is another major advantage. Most LVP products feature a wear layer on top that resists scuffs and scratches, stains and WWW.Speedway-world.pl UV fading. Families with kids and pets love how easy it is to maintain: regular sweeping and a damp mop are usually enough.

Warmth and comfort is also important, especially in Canadian winters. Luxury vinyl tends to feel softer and quieter under your feet compared to ceramic tile, while several collections offer a built-in underlay that reduces noise.

Seasonal change plays a big role. Solid hardwood shrinks and swells with changes in humidity, which means it is best installed with proper acclimatization and a stable indoor environment. Engineered wood gives you an authentic wood surface with greater stability, making it a smart option for Canadian homes.

Laminate has come a long way a lot. Premium laminate products feature high-definition images and embossed textures that look very close to real wood. The wear layer keeps it resistant to daily wear, and it is priced lower. Many collections now include water-resistant cores.

One important note: some vinyl and laminate products include an attached underlayment. In that case, doubling up may lead to joint failure and cancel your warranty. Be sure to check the manufacturer's guidelines.

class=When planning a flooring project, they tend to focus on the colour, the style and the price per square foot. However what lies beneath your planks plays an equally important role. Quality underlay can improve how the floor feels, sound and moisture protection, and it helps your flooring stay beautiful for years.

Underlayment also hides slight unevenness beneath the floor and gives some cushioning and warmth. Keep in mind, however, it is not a substitute for a flat subfloor: big height differences should be levelled beforehand.

First of all, test for moisture in your basement. A quick test such as taping a square of plastic to the floor for 24 to 48 hours can reveal any moisture problem. Solve any leaks before you install any floor.

Renovating a basement is one of the best ways to increase the usable space and comfort to your home. But basements come with special challenges: concrete slabs, moisture and lower temperatures. The wrong floor often causes mold, warping and costly repairs.

Quality laminate is also a strong option. Its hard melamine surface stays highly resistant to scuffs and scratches, sometimes more than other floors. Select products with a high abrasion rating as well as water-resistant features for families with pets.

The first step is to consider the way you live in each space. A busy entryway calls for a hard-wearing floor that cleans up in seconds, whereas a bedroom may prioritize softness and style. Wet areas benefit from moisture-resistant products like luxury vinyl plank or tile.

Luxury vinyl plank is widely considered the go-to floor below grade. Most vinyl products are completely waterproof, so they will not swell or rot when moisture shows up. SPC and WPC planks can also hide small irregularities in the slab.

Is hardwood an option? Yes, but choose wisely. Harder species like oak, maple or hickory resist dents better, while matte finishes and natural grain patterns camouflage small scratches better than glossy floors.

Before you buy, be sure to bring samples home in the actual room. Colours can look quite different than they do in a showroom. For professional guidance and a large selection of quality flooring products, take a look at this Canadian flooring store and start planning your project today.

One of its main jobs is noise control. Floating floors often sound hollow without proper underlayment. A good acoustic underlay absorbs footstep noise, something that is especially useful in apartments and condos where building rules often require a minimum IIC or STC rating.

Moisture protection is also a major benefit, especially in basements. Concrete subfloors can release moisture vapour constantly, and an underlay with a built-in vapour barrier keeps wood-based floors from swelling.
