Vinyl plank flooring is the number one pick for pet owners. It's waterproof or highly water-resistant, meaning spilled drinks become no big deal. A thick wear layer helps resist scratches from claws, and its softer feel is less noisy than tile.

Canadian winters can be beautiful, yet winter is rough on your floors. Slush, road salt, gravel and dry indoor air can damage even the best floors if left unchecked. With the right routine, you can keep your floors in top shape all season long.

Salt residue leaves a white film which may damage the finish of most floors. Remove residue as soon as possible with a damp microfibre mop together with a pH-neutral cleaner. Avoid soaking the floor on wood and laminate.

Laminate has evolved a lot. Premium laminate feature high-definition images and textured surfaces that look remarkably close to real wood. The wear layer makes it very resistant to scuffs and scratches, and it comes in at a fraction of the cost of hardwood. A growing number of collections also offer improved water resistance.

Before anything else, check the moisture level of the concrete. A simple test for example taping a plastic sheet to the floor for a day or two can reveal whether moisture comes through. Fix any leaks prior to installing any floor.

If you live with dogs, cats or young children, you already know how quickly floors suffer. Claws, toy cars and blocks, juice spills and wet paws will stain the wrong floor in no time. The good news: modern flooring options are built to survive real life.

In the end, which floor makes sense? When authentic material plus the ability to refinish are your priority, consider real wood. If budget, durability and low upkeep are more important, quality laminate is hard to beat.

What about hardwood? It is possible, but choose wisely. Dense species like hickory and white oak are more resistant, and matte finishes and natural grain patterns disguise small scratches much better than a shiny finish.

Luxury vinyl plank is widely considered the top option for lower levels. Many LVP collections are water-resistant, so they will not swell or rot when a small leak appears. Rigid-core planks also hide minor imperfections in the concrete.

Everything starts at the entrance. Use a sturdy outdoor mat plus a soft absorbent mat inside the main entrances. Using both catches most of the snow and grit before it reaches your flooring. Use a boot rack so dripping shoes never sit directly on the floor.

Moisture levels is also another key factor. In winter, the air inside often becomes too dry, causing natural wood to contract and small gaps to form. A humidifier keeping humidity at a stable level benefits your wood floors and your comfort.

Finishing a basement is a great way to increase the usable space and value in your house. But lower levels bring specific problems: concrete slabs, humidity plus lower temperatures. A poor flooring choice often causes mildew, buckling and expensive replacements.

Engineered wood is a possibility for those who want a genuine wood surface. Due to its stable core, it handles moisture swings much better than solid wood, which is a poor choice on concrete. Always use a moisture barrier for long-term performance.

Its first role is noise control. Laminate and click vinyl may sound loud without a good underlay. A quality underlayment absorbs footstep noise, something that is especially important in apartments and condos where strata rules frequently demand minimum sound ratings.

Underlayment also smooths out slight unevenness beneath the floor http://www.digital-marketing.Ipt.pw/ while gives a little softness underfoot. Note, though, it cannot replace proper subfloor preparation: large dips and bumps should be levelled first.

The first thing to do is to look at the way you live in each space. A mudroom calls for a durable, easy-care surface, whereas a bedroom may prioritize comfort and warmth. Kitchens work best with water-resistant options such as luxury vinyl plank or porcelain tile.

Hardwood remains a timeless option. It adds natural character that is hard to copy, and it can be sanded and refinished many times during its lifespan. Being able to refinish it means a hardwood floor will last a very long time. It usually increases resale value across Canada.

Your budget is also a major consideration. Laminate offers a realistic wood look at an affordable cost, and LVP combines value with excellent moisture protection. Remember to budget for underlayment, baseboards, and labour in your total cost.

Quality laminate makes a great option. The protective top layer stays highly resistant to scratches, often more than vinyl. Look for a laminate with a high AC rating plus water-resistant edges for busy homes.
