Indoor humidity is also very important. When the furnace is running, the air inside often becomes too dry, leading to hardwood to shrink and cracks to appear. Using a humidifier keeping humidity at a stable level protects your wood floors as well as your health.

Salt residue leaves white marks that will etch the finish of hardwood, http://digital-marketing.IPT.Pw/user/vilmasons7/ laminate and vinyl. Wipe up residue as soon as possible using a slightly damp cloth and a cleaner made for your type of floor. Stay away from soaking the floor on wood and laminate.

When people shop for flooring, they tend to focus on colour, style and the price per square foot. However what lies beneath your planks matters just as much. A good underlayment improves comfort, noise levels and moisture protection, while it helps your flooring stay beautiful for years.

LVP is usually the top option for lower levels. Many vinyl products are fully waterproof, so they will not be damaged when a small leak shows up. Rigid-core vinyl also hide minor imperfections in the slab.

The biggest advantage of vinyl plank is its resistance to moisture. Compared with natural wood, good vinyl flooring will not swell after contact with water. That makes it an ideal option for wet areas like kitchens and bathrooms.

One important note: many vinyl and laminate products include a pre-attached pad. When that is the case, adding another underlay may create joint failure and cancel your warranty. Be sure to check the manufacturer's guidelines.

Durability is also a major advantage. Many LVP products come with a tough top coating that resists scuffs and scratches, marks and fading. Homes with dogs and cats value how easy it is to maintain: a quick sweep and a light mop keep it looking new.

First of all, check the moisture level in your basement. A basic moisture test for example taping a square of plastic onto the slab for 24 to 48 hours can show whether moisture comes through. Address drainage issues prior to installing new flooring.

Comfort underfoot also matters, particularly during cold Canadian months. Vinyl feels softer and quieter underfoot compared to ceramic tile, and most planks offer a built-in underlay that reduces noise.

The result is simply flooring that looks identical to traditional wood but behaves better through the seasons. Since it is more stable, engineered wood can be used in rooms in which solid wood would struggle, including below-grade rooms and over radiant heating.

Protection from moisture is also a critical benefit, especially over concrete. Concrete often releases moisture vapour constantly, and an underlay with a built-in vapour barrier keeps the flooring from swelling.

A key function is to provide sound reduction. Laminate and click vinyl may sound noisy without a good underlay. The right underlay reduces impact sound, something that is essential in multi-storey homes in which building rules frequently set minimum sound ratings.

If you are shopping for luxury vinyl for your renovation, make sure to compare collections and look at real samples. You will find many styles at Canada Floors Depot to find a style that matches your home.

The right underlay can also compensates for slight unevenness in the subfloor and gives a little comfort and insulation. Note, though, that is not a substitute for a flat subfloor: big height differences must be fixed before installation.

That is where engineered hardwood stands out. Rather than being made from one solid board, an engineered plank consists of cross-layered plies: a top layer of real wood on top of a dimensionally stable base. The cross-layered construction minimizes expansion and contraction.

When shopping, pay attention to the thickness of the wear layer. A heavier veneer lets you refinish the floor in the future, increasing the floor's lifespan. Remember to keep indoor humidity in a stable range all year long.

Canadian homes go through significant humidity changes from season to season. In winter, our heaters dry out indoor air; in the warm months, moisture levels climb again. For wood flooring, that constant movement can cause gaps, crowning and movement.

Today's laminate flooring has come a long way significantly. Good laminate uses realistic printed designs and embossed textures that feel very close to real wood. Its wear layer keeps it resistant to daily wear, and it costs less. Many newer products also offer improved water resistance.

The first line of defence is the entrance. Place a sturdy outdoor mat and a washable absorbent rug indoors every entrance. Using both traps the majority of the snow and grit before it gets to your floors. Use a waterproof tray to make sure snowy boots never sit on your flooring.

Engineered hardwood is another option when you prefer a genuine wood surface. Thanks to its cross-ply structure, engineered wood handles moisture swings much better than solid wood, which is a poor choice in basements. Always use an appropriate underlay to protect it.
