Tout le monde (grand public)

Real hardwood is a timeless option. It adds authentic grain that no imitation fully matches, and it may be sanded and refinished many times over the decades. That ability means quality hardwood to last for decades. It also adds resale value across Canada.

Modern laminate has evolved dramatically. High-quality laminate uses high-definition images and textured surfaces that look surprisingly close to real wood. The tough top layer makes it resistant to scratches, and it comes in lower. A growing number of newer products now include improved water resistance.

When people shop for flooring, most of the attention goes to colour, the style and the price per square foot. But what lies beneath the floor is just as important. Quality underlay improves comfort, noise levels and protection against moisture, and it helps your new floor stay beautiful for years.

Budget remains a key factor. Modern laminate provides a realistic wood look at a lower price, and LVP brings together affordability with outstanding water resistance. Keep in mind to budget for the underlay, transitions, and professional installation in your estimate.

Selecting the right floor is among the most significant decisions you will make during a remodeling project. In Canada, the choice is especially demanding because our homes need to withstand cold, dry winters, humid summers, melting snow and de-icing salt carried in at the door.

When you are deciding on a wood-look floor, two materials usually lead the conversation: laminate flooring and natural hardwood. Both are attractive, but they differ a lot when it comes to cost, durability and lifespan.

The first thing to do is to look at how each room is used. A high-traffic hallway requires a hard-wearing floor that cleans up in seconds, while a guest room can prioritize comfort and warmth. Wet areas benefit from water-resistant materials such as LVP or tile.

Hardwood floors continues to be a feature many buyers look for. Engineered hardwood gives you that same premium look with more flexibility in Canadian conditions. If you need to control costs, quality laminate can deliver an equally attractive wood look at a lower cost.

Important: many vinyl and laminate products already have an attached underlayment. In that case, adding another underlay may lead to problems and affect the warranty. Be sure to read the installation guide.

Last but not least, be sure to see samples under your own lights. Colours often look quite different than they do in a showroom. If you are looking for professional guidance and a wide selection of hardwood, laminate and vinyl, take a look at quality flooring in Canada before you make your final decision.

Climate plays an important role. Traditional solid wood shrinks and swells with changes in humidity, which means it performs best after proper acclimatization and a stable indoor environment. Engineered wood offers the same natural look with greater resistance to movement, making it a popular choice in our climate.

LVP is often the first recommendation for families. It is waterproof, meaning spilled drinks become no big deal. A durable top layer helps reduce scratches, while the cushioned feel feels quieter for kids playing on the floor.

Can you use wood in wet areas? Water-resistant laminate can work well for kitchens, provided that moisture is dealt with right away. Wood can also be used in a kitchen with care, however in full bathrooms, waterproof vinyl or tile remain the better options.

When your household includes pets and kids, you already know that floors can get damaged. Claws, toys, accidents and muddy boots will scratch a delicate surface in no time. Fortunately: modern floor options are designed to stand up to everyday chaos.

Can you still have hardwood? Absolutely, though be selective. Dense species such as hickory, maple and oak are more resistant, while matte finishes or natural grain patterns disguise small scratches far better than high-gloss finishes.

The kitchen and the bathroom are the hardest-working rooms in a household. They deal with water, moisture, dropped dishes and daily cleaning. Your flooring choice here needs to be waterproof, durable and low maintenance and still deliver great design.

One of its main jobs is to provide sound reduction. Floors that are not glued down can sound hollow without proper underlayment. The right underlay reduces impact sound, which is especially important in condos in which building rules frequently set a minimum IIC or STC rating.

Laminate is another strong option. The tough wear layer stays very resistant to scratches, sometimes even more about 8fun than vinyl. Select a laminate with an AC4 or AC5 rating and water-resistant features for busy homes.

class=The right underlay also smooths out minor imperfections beneath the floor and provides a bit of comfort and insulation. Remember, however, it cannot replace proper subfloor preparation: large dips and bumps should be corrected before installation.
