Dry Eye Disease (DED) is a chronic, multifactorial condition with a steadily increasing global prevalence, particularly in highly developed countries. Its etiology is closely linked to environmental factors, lifestyle changes, and systemic conditions, making it one of the most common disorders encountered in modern eye care. This presentation will outline the key diagnostic and management elements essential for optometrists and opticians in daily clinical practice. A detailed review of anterior segment pathologies relevant to DED will be provided, along with an overview of ocular conditions that may mimic dry eye symptoms and lead to diagnostic challenges.
The lecture will also address crucial considerations for both spectacle and contact lens correction in patients with DED, including strategies to enhance comfort and visual performance. Finally, the session will conclude with a discussion on Dry Eye Disease in the pediatric population—an area of growing importance due to increased screen use and evolving environmental exposures. This comprehensive overview aims to support eye care professionals in delivering effective, evidence-based care to patients affected by DED.
